The city council approved Ordinance #04-2024 - ORDINANCE CREATING 2-3 OF THE ATHENS CITY CODE "SOLICITORS", September 9, 2024.
OIL & CHIPPING OF ROADS STARTING MONDAY 09/09/2024

The City of Athens will be oiling & chipping roads starting on Monday 09/09/24. Please see the list of roads that are scheduled and the reminders to help this process run smoothly.
CORRECTION -- A-Team Citywide Clean-Up

A-Team Disposal will be conducting their city-wide clean-up from September 16-20. Please have your items on the curb out front of the house, not in the alley (items left in the alley will not be picked up). Please ensure any loose items are boxed or bagged for easier pickup.
FLU SHOT CLINIC

The City of Athens will be hosting it's 4th of July Fireworks Celebration on July 6th, 2024 at Athens Community Park.
DUPLICATE WATER BILLS

Some of you are concerned that you received another water bill. We were to send out bills with the link to our water quality report, as per IEPA guidelines, when the original bills were mailed we failed to put the link on the bill. So we had to reprint the bills and include the link. We apologize for the confusion this has caused but please rest assured that you have only been billed once, and if you have already paid the first bill you do not owe the second one. If you have any questions please contact Village Hall.
A-Team City Wide Clean Up Date Set

Hydrant Flushing

The City Public Works Department has started flushing hydrants. Please note that you may experience low water pressure during these times. This will be an ongoing project throughout the summer.
NOTICE FOR ALL ACH CUSTOMERS

We wanted to inform our customers who are currently signed up for ACH payments that are automatically withdrawn from their checking or savings account, payments will be taken out on the 20th of this month rather than the 15th. Please note that late charges will not be issued for those ACH customers.
Mowing Bid Correction

The submission deadline for sealed bids for mowing for the West Cemetery is May 9, 2024 at 12 pm and bid opening will be May 9, 2024 at 7 pm.
Invitation to Bid

The City of Athens will be accepting bids for lawn maintenance of the West Cemetery. Lawn maintenance will consist of mowing and trimming on a weekly basis during the growing season and branch pick-up before mowing. Sealed bids will be opened on May 8, 2024, at 6:30 pm at the Athens City Hall. Contact Athens City Hall at 217-636-8429 with questions. The City of Athens reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids.
Water Rate Increase Effective 05/01/24

The Athens City Council voted Monday 04/08/2024 in a regular council meeting to raise water and sewer rates for the users of the City of Athens Water District by passing Ordinance #03-2024. Due to rising costs, and system maintenance that must be done to maintain a safe and proper working utility system, rates had to be increased. The new rate change will go into effect for the May water usage and will be reflected on the billing that is received in June. The rates are as follows:
